Eating Flax can counteract dryness caused by the weather
There’s nothing new about the beauty benefits of flaxseed! Hu Shihui; Ming period (1368-1644) Chinese woodcut,
The picture is of a farmer, holding a flax (linseed) plant standing in front of a venerable Chinese gentleman with the renowned nutritionist, Hu Shihui and another attendant. The Hu Shihui is expounding the health benefits of eating flax in the autumn. Evidently, they had the same issues with autumn causing the dry skin that we tend to get in winter here. Eating the ground flax according to traditional Chinese medicine is supposed to restore moisture to the body and counteract the harm caused by climatic dryness of autumn.
Moisturising from the inside?
Flaxseed oil – as little as one teaspoon per day (just add to any food or drink) – can work surprisingly quickly to improve the skin’s natural oils and suppleness. It can feel like moisturising from the inside, but what’s really happening is a better balance of omega-3 in the body, allowing the skin to function as it should. When your body has the nutrients it needs, keeping skin smooth, supple and comfortable becomes part of its natural maintenance. The result? You may find you rely less on topical moisturisers for your face, while supporting healthier skin all over.
